inquiry 3 day workshop

real learning

(prerequisite - 3 Day Thinking Skills Workshop - 'real thinking')

Are we preparing children for their future or our past? This workshop focuses on developing the participants’ ability to teach students how to learn using the "thinkInQ™" inquiry framework as a model for designing and delivering integrated curricula which incorporates higher level thinking skills/ tools, information skills, technology as a tool, multiple intelligences, learning styles and student self-assessment. The think!nQ™ inquiry learning framework identifies the stages of the natural learning process through an annotated pictorial model. As the ‘thinkbox™’ and ‘think!nQ™’ frameworks interface, learning moves from a focus on individual opportunities to comprehensive issue-based units of study. The model empowers students to learn independently through a process, which mirrors real life thinking and learning. By making the learning process explicit to the learner, greater ownership of the learning process can evolve. Explore the relationship between an inquiry approach and the preparation of our learners for their future.

Outcomes

Beginning With The Big Picture
- explore the ‘think!nQ™’ Inquiry framework through multimedia
- examine the process through video - Capturing the Journey
- investigate student ‘Inquiry Folders’

Looking Back to Move Forward
- revisit ‘Petite Inquiry’ as a foundation for ‘think!nQ™’ comprehensive inquiry
- develop your ability to infuse the arts seamlessly into each inquiry whereby students learn about the arts in their purity but also learn through the arts

From Theory to Practice
- examine a developmental approach which moves learners from learning through teacher developed inquiry to collaboratively developed inquiry onto the ultimate goal of student developed inquiry
- plan a unit of focus which meets curriculum guidelines, integrates subject disciplines, multiple intelligences and learning styles, higher level thinking skills and tools, student self-assessment, information skills and technology as a tool to enhance learning
